Anno 2070 - SimTropiCraftTycoonTown: Future!

The Anno series is a bit hard to pidgeonhole. It's got elements of SimCity, bits that feel like an RTS, and complex resource management rivaling a Railroad Tycoon or Tropico game. I haven't played many of the mobile sim games that have been popular of late, but I have to imagine that there are some similarities and parallels there as well.

Fez - Mario Myst-ified

When Super Mario 64 was first released, it was a watershed moment for platformers, 3D games, and really gaming in general. The imprint of its camera and control scheme can be seen in many contemporary games. It's a formula that more or less dominated the gaming industry up until the release of Grand Theft Auto 3 some years later, which heralded the "Sandbox Era."

Stacking is a delightful adventure game

Stacking is one of very few Tim Schafer games that I hadn't played. I read reviews that it was short and not particularly awesome, so I'd more or less ignored it. The Steam Summer Sale discounted it for less than $4, and I just couldn't resist. So during our play time, for 3 or 4 straight days, the family gathered on the couch to watch Daddy play Stacking.

inFAMOUS 2 - Playing With Lightning

I came late to the PS3 party, as I got mine just a few months ago. Having come from the Xbox 360 and the PC worlds, the games I am really interested in are the PS3 exclusives. inFAMOUS was high on that list, and so I played it a few months back. It was good, but didn't really stand out from other third person shooters or open world games, and it really didn't shine when I held it up to games like Saints Row 3 and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Penny Arcade: Precipice (etc) Episode 3

Confession time - I own the first two episodes of this series, and I've never finished them. I got probably 75% of the way through the first one, and was just bored with the combat. I put it aside and took a break, and told myself I'd come back for it. Well, that plan backfired. Now that episode 3 is out, I thought I'd try again, but in the intervening time, I'd forgotten almost everything about the plot and/or what I was supposed to be doing. In the interests of getting something done, I ended up just skipping straight to this game, the latest installment.

Spoiler-free Skyrim Quickstart Guide

All of Bethesda's games have a similar problem - they're really difficult to get started with because the choices are so vast, it can get overwhelming. Do I go here first, or there? Will I lock myself out of X because I advanced the Y quests too quickly? What skills should I be prioritizing?

Is Mass Effect 3 worth the effort for new players?

EB and I have discussed the Mass Effect series on several occasions. To say he's not a big fan would be putting it lightly. I'm personally pretty enamored with the series as a whole though. I find the stories to be engaging, the gameplay fun, and the overall story are is interesting. I gave my overall impression of the game in this review I did for the Gaming.StackExchange blog, so you might want to check in over there if you're not a newcomer to the series.
