SuperCell has released another big batch of updates. So many in fact that it is hard to list them all. Since it will take a while to digest them, I thought I'd focus first on the new Clash of Clans Freeze Spell.
Wow. Candy Crush Level 65 ramps the difficulty of this game up to a whole new level. When I first heard about Kickstarter, I was super psyched. I backed all sorts of neat games. As time has worn on, though, I've had more time to reflect on the current state of the game Kickstarter. The more I think about Kickstarting video games, the more I realize that the current pattern of successful game Kickstarters has some serious problems.
Ni No Kuni is a PS3 Japanese-style RPG by Level 5 (creators of the Professor Layton series, among others) and Studio Ghibli, a renowned Japanese animation studio. It blends the distinctive mature-yet-accessible stories and evocative animation of Ghibli's work with the deep gameplay mechanics of Level 5's other blockbuster games. It's an excellent game, and well worth your investment in time and money. So what do you do? Well you drop some trophies (lose on purpose), and then you curb stomp some lower level villages. At this point you might be feeling pretty good about your new-found approach, but it will quickly become apparent that "farming" can be tougher than it first sounds. SuperCell intentionally designed the possibility of a Pyrrhic Victory - the case in which you win but lose more resources by winning then you gained. So how do you decide who to attack? It's been many years since I last made any significant changes to my wireless internet setup. In fact, the last major router I bought was a Linksys WRT54G, and I bought it at the (now bankrupt) CompUSA store near my house. However, of late the 'ol 54G has been showing signs of age, and has even crashed a few times in the last couple of months. I finally decided it was time to spend some time researching the current state of the art for wireless standards and routers.
