Assault Android Cactus is the debut game from Witch Beam, an Australian indie team of AAA game developer veterans. It's a dual stick shooter featuring a cast of anime-styled robot fighters that do battle against legions of out-of-control robots. Ironcast is a roguelike match-3 puzzle game set in an alternate history, steampunk version of Victorian-era Britain. After the discovery of a new power source, France and Britain are locked in a war that seems to have hit a stalemate. Giant steam-powered walking tanks called "ironcasts" are the latest weapon of this seemingly neverending war. On the eve of a massive French invasion, we join the British ironcast pilots as they make a desperate stand. For freedom! For glory! For giant robot combat and gem matching!

Last weekend, EBongo and I spent a considerable amount of time navigating SxSW Interactive and the events surrounding it. This was our second major gaming con of the year, and I feel like we learned a lot between PAX and SxSW. Still, though, there were things we could have done better. The SxSW Interactive Gaming Expo was a very enjoyable change of pace from the joyous gaming mayhem of PAX South earlier this year. Lines were a little shorter, but there were great games a plenty and agent86ix and I were fortunate enough to have many great conversations with developers working on the next wave of amazing game titles. The Gaming Expo is free and open to the public, so if you are a local gamer I would highly recommend it next year. Here are some of the best of games we saw this year:

South by Southwest Interactive is taking place next weekend in downtown Austin. As we're an Austin area gaming focused blog, we've got our press access lined up. We're planning on heading down and checking out the Gaming Expo and the Geek Stage March 14th through the 16th.
