How do I clear Candy Crush Level 33?

Candy Crush Saga starts out pretty easy, but by the time you hit Candy Crush Saga level 33 in Lemonade Lake, the difficulty ramps up considerably. Candy Crush Level 33 is very, very challenging. In this guide, I’ll do what I can to ease the burden of level 33.

Candy Crush Level 33 Guide

There’s no getting around it – this game hates you. Like, actively hates you, the player. When the robots rise up and overthrow our sorry civilization, they will use this game as a blueprint for their “carbon-based life form torture chambers.” “N-N-No, not the CANDY! AAAAAHHHH-…” but I digress.

The goal here is to clear all 16 of the jelly squares. Each jelly square takes two matches on top of it to clear. Since they’re arranged in 2 by 2 squares, this means you can match on top of at most 2 squares with a standard 3-in-a-row match.

Do the math with me now – you have to match four times per quadrant and there are four quadrants. That means that assuming you could match 3 on every move and clear 2 squares of jelly, you’d need 16 moves. Take a close look at the move counter – you’ve got 14. That’s two less than you’d need even in the optimistic case where you can always match 3 on top of jelly with each move, so chances are you’re going to need more like 20-25 moves to win.

To add insult to injury, the quadrants are divided in such a way that you can’t get a 5-in-a-row match ever, and a “wrapped candy” match is going to be extremely rare. So, you’re stuck with match 3 and striped candy moves.

But Wait, There’s Hope!

The game a) hates you and b) is unfair. That’s the bad news. The good news is, you can still win.

Here’s the trick:

Like I mentioned in my Rolling Guide, you can enter and exit the level as many times as you want as long as you’re playing on a phone, you don’t make a move, and the level isn’t timed. The starting candy layout will be different each time.

What you want is at least one 4-of-a-kind match on top of the jelly in one of the two lower quadrants. Both would be ideal, but that may be more exiting and entering than you’re willing to put up with.

If you can start with a 4-of-a-kind match, and use that striped candy to clear out an entire row or column of jelly squares, that should be enough to give you the bump you need to overcome this level.

Beyond that, it’s going to take a lot of luck and a lot of lives. This is one level where I wouldn’t fault you for using some of your consumable boosts.

Any other levels you’re stuck on? Maybe I can help! Leave me a comment and inspire my next article!

I’ll just add two thoughts. 1) I’ve found it possible to get wrapped candies on this level despite agent86ix’s pessimistic comment. Getting one, and mixing it with a striped is almost a guaranteed win. 2) As mentioned in the full guide, work from the bottom. It can get you some free bonus matches from dropping candies.

    • Kforget

How on earth can you get a straight five match when the boxes are 4 x 4? Seems quite illogical unless you use a boost. Think people!

I think we all agree with you here – I said as much in the article! Nobody’s getting a Color Bomb (5-in-a-row) without paying for it :P

        • Sovereign Gamer

I am between 65 & 66 where the Mystery Quest is level 33. This sooo frustrating! Level 33 wasn’t this bad. I have cleared the jellies 3 times only to be told my score didn’t meet min. Ugh! I REFUSE to spend a penny nor am I about to link up to FB :I And after this, I have to clear TWO MORE Mystery Quest. I have to agree that this game hates me!!!

      • EBongo

Yes, color bomb is right out. I was referring to a wrapped candy that you can get with a T or L shape, mixed with a striped that you can get with a “match 4″. The wrapped is pretty hard to do on this level, but it is possible. Win, lose, or draw, you’ll be playing this level a lot. Sooner or later you’ll get lucky and get a wrapped, and in that case my advice is to try as hard as possible to mix it with a striped.

Omg! I hate this round. Can’t pass it and its different every time. The one I just played had absolutely no moves on the left side both top and bottom. This level is meant to be failed a few times before you get a good puzzle.

    • https://plus.google.com/u/1/106821154503898033506/ agent86

Yep. If you’re playing on your phone or a tablet, you can “roll” the level by entering and leaving repeatedly. As long as you don’t make a move, you’ll get another chance at random candies without losing a life.

        How do I “roll”?

        • https://plus.google.com/u/1/106821154503898033506/ agent86

On the mobile versions of the game, you can enter and exit a non-timed level as many times as you want by backing out to the map screen before you make a move. I call this “rolling” in my guide to Candy Crush Saga.

    • https://plus.google.com/u/1/106821154503898033506/ agent86

I don’t think there’s any way to restore your progress if it got deleted, sadly :(

You might try talking to King via their Facebook page. We’re just playing the games, they actually make them :)

Thank you for your tips. After reading this article I passed :)

Congrats! I’m so glad we could help :) C’mon back when you hit the next super-hard level!

I requested and received numerous lives to open the next level after lemonade Lake. Where did they go – when I open the game to play it’s still locked and it says I need a life – ask my friends. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked friends to send a life. What’s up with that?

    • https://plus.google.com/u/1/106821154503898033506/ agent86

Lives and Tickets are two different things. Lives let you keep playing if you don’t finish a level before moves/time run out. Tickets let you unlock the next episode.

So, it doesn’t matter how many lives you have (or how many times you’ve asked) if you want to unlock the new levels – you’ll have to go back to your friends and ask for tickets now.

    Please help with level 65

    • https://plus.google.com/u/1/106821154503898033506/ agent86

We’ve already got an article for level 65, it’s right here.

It’s like I read your mind and then time travelled a few weeks into the past just to make sure we’d be ready for your comment! Except, without the creepy psychic mind reading or the physics-defying time travel. So, yeah. Enjoy!

  • Mike

Interesting article. I don’t what version you have, but if I enter and exit without making a move all my lives get eaten up. I learned this the hard way.

Are you perhaps playing on your PC via the Facebook website? If so, you can’t roll. I recently put together a special purpose guide on this page which explains the rules of the roll.

Level 33 is kind of a terrible level to start on. You might consider going back to some of the older levels that you skipped and playing through them – some of them have tutorials which are quite helpful.

That said, level 33 is the first of the “really tough” levels in Candy Crush Saga. It only gets harder from here, I’m afraid.

The “Jelly” squares have a white-ish background to them. The 4 squares in the middle of each of the groups of squares on level 33 are covered with Jelly. Matching candy on top of the jelly clears it. The jelly on this level requires two matches to completely clear – it will get a little less white after the first match, but isn’t considered clear until after the second.

Thank you so much for your time I appreciate you taking your time an explaining that to me, xoxo

  • Gridee

Excellent advice! I cleared this level after “rolling” a few times and two attempts. Thx

  • evsays

Problem is you use lives when you open the level, whether you play or back out. Shitty advice.

    • agent86ix

Rolling is actually a very important and useful strategy for Candy Crush Saga, but it confuses many people. You may want to check out our guide to rolling so you know where it works and where it doesn’t!

  • Correctamundo

I don’t have a problem clearing – I have a problem getting the required points to go with it.

    • Correctamundo

Finally just beat it on my last move with multiple striped candies.
